JOB TITLE: Quality Assurance (QA) Technician
BUSINESS UNIT: Quality Assurance
LOCATION: Morgan Hill, CA 115MMH
REPORTS TO: Quality Assurance Manager
WORK SCHEDULE: Available weekends
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, start time @ 5:30 am
Compensation: The following information is provided in honesty as a general description of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon related factors such as, skills and experience, education, work location, internal pay equity, etc.
Salary Range: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
About the role: The role of this position is to assist the QA Manager in coordinating a facility-wide GMP/HACCP Food Safety Program and to ensure these programs are adhered to, including facility compliance and achieving audit requirements.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Perform the Pre-Operational Inspection with the Sanitation team early in the morning at 5:30 am. Report all findings from the pre-Operational inspection using AppSheets on the tablets.
  • Perform Calibration for the production scales and thermometers.
  • Perform concentration tests for the chemicals used as sanitizers and detergents in washing the product equipment.
  • Review QA and production data (Google AppSheets) using Tablets. and review CCPs in the CAS system.
  • Perform HACCP verification checks on the production lines for the CCPs (metal detector, overwrap film, and blade checks), and temperatures.
  • Investigate customer complaints, respond to customers, and implement corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of or familiar with Primus GFS scheme, 3rd party auditing body.
  • Assist in 2nd and 3rd party audits (Primus, Organic, FDA, customers, and Army audits) and fill for QA manager if needed.
  • Keep the SDS (Safety Data Sheets) up to date for all the chemicals that are used at Monterey Mushrooms, LLC
  • Perform and report shelf-life studies for the product.
  • Perform environmental swabs on Zone 1,2,3 and 4 in the packing area on a weekly basis.
  • Perform ATP swabs daily during the pre-Operational inspection using Luminometer.
  • Conduct Mock Recalls for product and food contact packaging materials.
  • SOP writing and updating
  • Conduct training of HACCP, GMP, policies, and SOPs for new hires and all team members
  • Assist the maintenance team in collecting water samples and sending them to the lab. File water test results and report nom- conformances.
  • Inspect product quality in the growing rooms.
  • Oversee daily audit procedures in Harvesting, Packing, and Shipping departments; monitor Harvesting performance through basket evaluations.
  • Evaluate purchased products and finished products for quality and recommend rejection if the product fails to meet standards.
  • Verify all HACCP Logs from Packing are complete and report any discrepancies to ensure compliance with the HACCP Plan.
  • Perform all requirements of sanitation HACCP and GMP standards including hairnet, beard net, and personal hygiene policies.
  • Observe and practice safety procedures at all times. Be safety conscious. Correct or notify the supervisor of safety hazards. In the event of an accident, notify the supervisor immediately. Attend scheduled Safety Meetings.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Generate monthly reports for Quality Manager, General Manager, and Corporate management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food safety requirements and Skills.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required:
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency requirements regarding GMP/HACCP, and MMI corporate quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of mushroom characteristics and related diseases.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Desired:
  • Bachelor Degree in Food Science or equivalent qualification
  • On-the-Job Training provided
  • Previous mushroom production experience preferred
  • Computer experience required, including Word and Excel
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English preferred).
